The largest of our properties here in Sturbridge, DCR managed Wells State Park covers 1,500 acres and delivers epic views and diverse trails for multi-use recreation.
This property is appropriate for family hiking. Leashed and well behaved dogs are welcome, please pick up after them.
Mountain bikers love this property, there are a variety of double and singletrack trails, rated green to black. Big climbs = big views!
Outside of the single and doubletrack trails, Wells has ample paved trails and packed gravel areas that are stroller friendly with water access.
If you like elevation, you will find it here. Carpenter Rock is the highest point in the property, accessible via intermediate level singletrack.
With this much protected space, wildlife is abundant. Bring your binoculars and be on the lookout.

Off of rt.49, the cut through from Sturbridge to Spencer connecting rt. 20 and rt. 9, you will find the entrance to Wells State Park. Continue straight for a few miles after the sign and you’ll come up to the main gate.
Ample parking is available and it is best to contact DCR if you plan to stay past dark in the off season to ensure the gate stays open.
